Tour Overview

ITINERARY: Itinerary may vary depending on the weather, security, operation of the lodge, etc.

WEATHER: The Amazon is generally hot and humid, with constant rain. Dry season runs from October to March, with temperatures ranging from 19 °C to 36 °C during the year.

HEALTH: Vaccines are not required, but it is recommended that everyone be vaccinated against Covid-19 for greater peace of mind for all passengers. In the lodge we have all the important medicines for emergencies, but it is the client’s responsibility to have travel insurance.
Sustainability: At SMART GALAPAGOS we work only with the best quality and price lodges, but we also make sure to work with the Lodges that pay more attention to caring for the environment.

WHAT TO BRING: Comfortable and light clothing. Long and comfortable pants for walking. Long sleeve t-shirts. Sun protection, glasses and insect repellent. Water bottle to fill with water. Rainwear. Headlamp for the night walk, camera and if possible long-views. If you wish, we can provide rubber boots and rain poncho.

Itinerary

Bus + Canoe to the lodge + Guided walk in the jungle
AM: Transportation from Lago Agrio to "El Puente" (beginning of the Reserve)

PM: Canoe down the river to reach the Lodge. Lunch is served at the Lodge around 2:00 PM. In the afternoon the activity will begin around 4:00 p.m., to visit the Laguna Grande and other nearby attractions. Around 17:30, you will arrive at the lagoon to swim and watch the sunset, which is one of the most amazing parts of the tour. At 18:00 an exciting night walk to enjoy the life and sounds of the jungle.

Dinner is served at 20:00. After dinner, the guide will give a brief briefing on the Lodge and the Cuyabeno reserve, as well as the itinerary for the next day. Rest.

Day 2 :
Cuyabeno

Walk in the primary forest + Laguna Grande
If you like, you can go bird watching at dawn.

Breakfast is served at 08:00 am.

After breakfast, you will take a short canoe ride to Laguna Grande. Walk in the jungle for approximately 3 hours, to learn about medicinal plants, biological flora and fauna.

Lunch at 13:00, and then relax by the river or enjoy a siesta in one of our hammocks. Afternoon activity begins around 4:00 PM, including taking a short canoe ride to other nearby lagoons and the Cuyabeno River to look for wildlife. Around 17:30, it's time to swim in the big lagoon and watch the sunset. Around 18:00 you will start the alligator search activity, maybe if you are lucky you will probably see the Amazon Tree Boa which is common to see at night.

Dinner at 20:00, rest.

Cuyabeno + Siona Community + Shaman
Breakfast at 08:00 a.m.

The canoe ride begins around 09:00 am down the Cuyabeno River, slowly searching for the abundant wildlife from the canoe. In about an hour you will arrive at the indigenous community; where you will visit an indigenous family. Here, the guide will explain about their culture and traditions. We will prepare traditional food called "Casabe" with demonstration and tasting.

Further down the Cuyabeno River we will visit a Shaman and learn about his culture and tradition. In addition, they will receive treatment with a medicinal plant called "red nettle"

After visiting the Shaman, you will stop at the Cuyabeno River to see the largest tree in the rainforest called “Ceiba”, then return to the Lodge.

Break with tea or coffee.

If you don't feel tired you can go to the Lagoon to see the last sunset and look for more animals. Dinner at 8:00 p.m.

Cuyabeno - Lago Agrio - Quito

Early we go out to observe birds or look for other animals in the tranquility of the early morning. Breakfast is at 08:00 am. After breakfast it is time to pack, to start the journey up the Cuyabeno River around 09:00 am from the Lodge, to return to the Reserve Entrance. Along the river you will have time to take a last look at the animals, flora and fauna of the jungle. The tour ends in Lago Agrio around 2:00 PM.

From Lago Agrio you can travel to any destination in Ecuador.
